Choosing a Development Charity

The Charities Directory provides a list of Development Charities working from the UK that provide food, shelter, education, health and defence of human rights for people living in developing countries. There is also a large list of Humanitarian Charities that provide immediate relief in disaster areas such as places suffering famine or recovering from natural disasters.

Having thought about some charities, you may want to find out more about them. The best place to compare them is the Charities Commission. It is the regulator and registrar for all charities in England and Wales. There you will find in depth financial information such as Income and Spending, an outline of the charity's activities and where it operates, staffing - paid and voluntary and importantly, how much of the revenue it raises is actually spent helping people.
